The Eixample is a district of Barcelona between the old city Ciutat Vella and what were once surrounding small towns (Sants, Gracia, Sant Andreu etc.). Its main sights are Sagrada Familia, Casa Mila (nicknamed as Pedrera), Casa Batlló, Casa Lleó y Casa Amatler. The district stands out by its modernist architecture.
A 2 min. stroll will lead you to Sagrada Familia, the pearl of Barcelona and unchained creation of world-know Antonio Gaudi. Frequent public transport (metro, buses, touristic bus) will deliver you to the city centre in 10-15 min. Though you can also go on foot and enjoy the marvellous works of modernist architects, numerous restaurants, bars and boutiques. The district is rather secure but at the same time offers a traveller a blend of traditional, modernist and informal atmosphere.
