Neighbourhood description...
Barrio Gótico district (Gothic Quarter) is the oldest part of Barcelona, it lies between the Las Ramblas and Via Laetana and expands from Plaça de Catalunya till the Paseo of Colon. It is a maze of little back streets with ancient houses which bear features of Romanesque and Gothic style.
This district always was a centre of commerce; its twisting little streets will offer you a grand variety of little shops, typical spanish food boutiques and famous franchises like Mango, Zara etc. Its most commercial area is Portal del Angel boulevard – paradise fro shopping lovers.
The area is full of lovely little square with open air cafes which are especially pleasant to sit on in summer and spring; you will find lots of restaurants from deluxe to simple ones, bars, discos which are in abundance here.
Royal Palace, Plaza de Sant Jaume (Square of Sant Jaume, where the town hall of Barcelona is located), ancient Cathedral, Bridge of sighs, various Museums (for example Museum of Shoe); they are the highlights of this neighbourhood and a must see if you really want to discover Barcelona.
