This month Barcelona has something for everyone, from art lovers and musicians to athletes and sports fans. Below is a list of May´s most interesting events.
Reprís
- The clown company Teatre Mòbil will be celebrating their 25th year with Reprís, a show which includes not only clowns but also monkey trainers, trapeze artists, and magicians. They will perform at Teatre Nacional de Catalunya from April 21 to May 16. This is a show that the whole family can enjoy. Tickets costs €12. http://www.tnc.cat
Asian Film Festival
- The Barcelona Asia Film Festival is a celebration of Asian cinema that takes place in different venues all over the city. Prices vary but for most sessions a ticket costs €6,5. http://www.baff-bcn.org/es/
Saló Internacional Del Còmic
- The International Comic Fair is where comic fans have a chance to see their favorite characters come to life. It is an annual event and one of Barcelona´s most successful events of the year. Formula One-Spanish Grand Prix
- The Spanish Grand Prix will take place this year from May 7-9. Tickets sell out quickly so if you don´t have one already and you want to attend be sure to purchase one ASAP. http://www.circuitcat.com
Sant Ponç
- May 11 is day the day of Sant Ponç, the patron saint of beekeepers and herbalists. Ever year Barcelona honors the day with a market on the neighborhood of Sarrià which includes stalls selling natural products such as honey, perfume, herbal wine, and candied fruit. Swab
- Swab is an international contemporary art fair that was founded in 2006 with the goal of presenting contemporary art from around the world. It´s perfect for art fans who are looking for something a bit different. This year it will take place from May 13 to May 16 at Fira Montjuic. Entry costs €10. http://www.swab.es/
Bike Show BCN
- Bike Show BCN is a two day event of competitions, exhibitions, and shows encompassing anything from more traditional bicycles to monocycles and four-wheeled cyclekarts. This year it will take place at the Parc del Fòrum on May 15 and 16. http://www.bikeshowbcn.com
Barcelona Poetry
- Barcelona Poetry is the city´s celebration of poetry. This year it will take place from May 13-19 with a series of events and workshops. 17th Flamenco Festival of Ciutat
The Flamenco Festival of Ciutat Vella is a chance to enjoy the voices, dances, and guitars of both famous flamenco artists and emerging talents. The shows will take place from May 19 to 22 at the CCCB and Mercat de les Flors and is ideal for those who want to experience some of Spain´s most traditional dance and music. www.flamencociutatvella.co/es
Cursa El Corte Inglés
- This is an 11k running event with over 50,000 participants. It has attracted so many participants that it is now thought to be the biggest running event in Europe. It will take place on May 30 and you can register online at http://www.cursaelcorteingles.com
Concerts:
Ismael Serrano - This Spanish artist, whose music is a fusion of pop, folk, and jazz, has eleven albums in total. He will be performing music from his newest, Acuérdate de Vivir, on May 5 and 6 at L’Auditori. www.auditori.cat
Cesaria Evora - One of the most important singers of Africa, Cesaria Evora of Cape Verde will be presenting her new album Nha Sentimento on May 7 at the Palau de la Música Catalana. http://www.palaumusica.org
Rufus Wainwright - This famous folk singer started his career in music in 1998 and achieved fame with his albums Want One? and Want Two? In 2003 and 2004. He will perform at Teatre Liceu on May 11. www.liceubarcelona.cat
Alejandro Sanz - The grammy award-winner is one of the most popular Spanish singers in the world. He will be performing at Palau Sant Jordi on May 12 and perform tracks from his newest album.
Tamara - Tamara, a 25 year old pop singer, has already launched 8 albums. On May 15 at L’Auditori she will be presenting songs from her newest album, Amores. www.auditori.cat
Fito Páez - This Argentinean singer, whose music is a blend of pop, jazz, and folk, has 22 albums. He will be presenting his newest, Confiá, on May 18 at L’Auditori. www.auditori.cat
Primavera Sound- This is a massive three-day, open-air music festival whose line-up includes indie rock bands, DJs, and experimental musicians. This year it will take place from May 27-29. http://www.primaverasound.com
