If you’re planning a trip to Barcelona, for two, three, four or five days, you may wish to consider purchasing the Barcelona Card as a way to enhance and improve your experience. The card is inexpensive and offers a number of advantages you are likely to appreciate and enjoy.

Many visitors to Barcelona have purchased and used the Barcelona Card for its free travel features and for the discounts it provides for many other venues, including retail shops, restaurants, entertainment and more.

This card is really a worthwhile and very modest investment for so many reasons. Here is everything that it provides to those who take the time to order it before traveling to Barcelona.

Barcelona Card provides these benefits: about the size of an ordinary credit card or driver’s license, the Barcelona Card provides FREE unlimited travel on public transport in and around Barcelona, including the Metro and most urban (city) bus lines. Moreover the trip from Barcelona airport to the centre of Barcelona by train is also included!

The card also provides more than 100 discounts and free offers at museums, cultural venues, leisure attractions, retail shops, restaurants, evening venues (including live entertainment) and more.

You need to “book” (order) the card at least 24 hours in advance of traveling to Barcelona. When you arrive, you’ll receive the card – and the benefits noted above – along with a Guidebook, available in Catalan, Spanish, English, French, Italian or German, cut-out coupons that you can use for specific destinations within the city limits and a helpful map that will make it easier and less stressful for you to travel around Barcelona.

Here is a more specific breakdown of what the card provides and how it can save you time and money during your stay in the city.

You get these discounts: the card will save you money at some of Barcelona’s most notable attractions. For example: you can use it at the world-famous Picasso Museum and enjoy a 50% discount off the normal entrance fee; the discount at the Museu de Joan Miro is also significant – 20%. If you travel to Plaza Cataluña in the heart of the city, you’ll be able to use your card to purchase interesting souvenirs for 12% below regular retail.  There are 12 museums you will be able to visit free with Barcelona Card!

If you are travelling with kids with Barcelona Card you will get 10% off at Aquarium of Barcelona and IMAX cinema which are worth a visit.

Clearly, the Barcelona Card offers visitors a way to save money. In fact, when in Barcelona, you will be able to dine at selected restaurants and receive a 10% reduction off the bill. There is a 20% discount available at entertainment venues, including the Palau de la Musica, well known for classical music presentations and at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the theater famous for presenting operas.

Of course, many other sites and destinations, including some museums, leisure attractions and more are free to you when you present the Barcelona Card upon arrival.

Here is another very important benefit: Barcelona is a city that is sometimes plagued by professional pickpockets who tend to ply their trade in crowded areas. Tourists are often the targets. The Barcelona Card can effectively eliminate you as a target when you’re at a railroad station, for example, because you will not have to take out your wallet or purse to purchase a ticket. Transportation, with the card, is free.

How to purchase the card: you have to buy your card in advance – at least 24 hours before you begin your trip to Barcelona. It’s called “booking” and once you’ve done that your card, guidebook and map will be turned over to you when you arrive.

How much the card will cost you? To begin, you can purchase the Barcelona Card for two days, three days, four days or five days – it’s your choice. The purchase price will depend on the number of days you select. Here’s a quick breakdown:

• Two Days …   27€ per person (for adults), 23€ for kids between 4 and 12
• Three Days … 33€ per person (for adults), 28€ for kids between 4 and 12
• Four Days …   37.50€ per person (for adults), 30.50€ for kids between 4 and 12
• Five Days …   44€ per person (for adults), 34.50€ for kids between 4 and 12

There is no charge for children under age 3. Special reduced prices are available for children between the ages of 4 and 12.

Barcelona offers visitors many wonderful things to see and do. And, while a visit to the city doesn’t have to be too costly, it can be much less expensive and more affordable if you purchase and use the Barcelona Card. Consider “booking” it before your trip begins.
