Barcelona has often been referred to as “party city” and as Spain’s “most European city.” In fact, it is all of that and more , a wonderful destination for people of all ages and tastes.

The city offers fun and excitement for couples off on a romantic weekend or holiday,  and something more for families traveling with children. For example:
Couples and families with children can take advantage of the sightseeing possibilities that exist all around Barcelona and stop to view the remarkable architecture of Antonio Gaudi, evident in many of the older buildings; they can also enjoy the incredible Gothic architecture that can be found almost exclusively in the city’s Gothic Quarter.

Additionally, there are many museums to visit, including a Museum of Modern Art , and museums honoring and showcasing the works of two great Spanish artists – Pablo Picasso and Joan Miro. Of course, there are also many art galleries scattered throughout the city, as well, selling the works of more modern artists.

Things to do that families with children will enjoy: there are many fun places to go for parents traveling with children. These include all of the following:
Poble Espanyol is a charmingly re-created Spanish Village that was built for the 1929 World’s Fair.

It features 115 life size reproductions of buildings and monuments that represent many of the differing architectural styles that can be found in the va rious regions of Spain. It has an outdoor café , restaurants , bars and a disco. Children will love the Magic Fountain Music and Light Show , the glass-blowing exhibitions , the chance to walk on stilts , and more.

Parc de la Ciutadella is a beautiful park with lakes, gardens, promenades and something special for the kids – a wonderful zoo, featuring animals from every part of the world.

Tibidabo Amusement Park is ideal for very young children, located just thirty minutes from the center of the city and accessible by special bus. Port Aventura Theme Park is ideally-suited for teenagers and older children. Created by world-famous Universal Studios, it is located about one hour from Barcelona and is reachable by railroad.

Children will also enjoy stops at Barcelona’s Chocolate Museum , the Imax Cinema , and the very entertaining Wax Museum.
Things to do that couples will enjoy. Barcelona is a wonderful place to go for couples interested in a romantic getaway or a weekend 0 or longer – of nonstop fun. There is so much to do:

Four great beaches are available for couples who want to “sit in the sun and relax.” Two of the beaches are easily accessible – by foot – from the heart of the city. Less crowded and more pristine beaches are less centrally-located.

Numerous bars and cafes offer couples a way to spice up the night. L.Arguer is an “archery bar” in fashionable El Borne that is upscale and known for its terrific mojitos. Ommsession, located in the Hotel Omm, is trendy. The Manchester Bar, in Raval, is an English-style pub known for its 90s music. The London Bar plays live music every night and was once a frequent stopping place for Hemingway and Picasso.

Of course, there are many, many more excellent bars and cafes catering to couples interested in a “fun night on the town.” There are also lively discos for those interested in dancing.

What you need to know about the cuisine. Barcelona is a world-class city and has restaurants offering every kind of cuisine with menus designed to meet every budget. There are expensive restaurants and open-air cafes that feature fine seafood, Catalan specialties , and ethnic foods from every corner of the world.

There are less expensive restaurants that are ideal for families with children.
Something else you need to know: lunch is usually served at around 2:00 P.M. in restaurants throughout Barcelona; dinner generally begins around 9:00 P.M. Most diners go to “tapas bars” to sample small, delicious appetizers before going to the restaurant where they will have dinner. It’s a Spanish tradition loved by all visitors to Spain.

Barcelona is a city in which couples or families traveling with children will always finds lots of fun and interesting things to do. If you’re coming to visit, make sure you plan an itinerary so that you don’t miss anything.
