Catwalk – one of the ten most popular clubs in Barcelona

Catwalk is one of the most well known discos in Barcelona. Before it was called Luna Mora and had quite a commercial music policy targeting locals more than foreign visitors. Then the group behind Catwalk took over the club and hired the director of Privilege in Ibiza, Angel, to create a new fresh new dance club.

The club is perfectly located in the Olympic Port next to Barcelona casino and famous Arts Hotel. It has 2 levels and in general the first floor is dedicated to pure house music and hip hop and rap is spun on the second floor. Both floors have a VIP section.

The VIP in the house room overlooks the dance floor and has its own personal waitress service. The VIP in the upper floor is next to the dance floor and again the service is personal and of a high standard. There are some nice three-seater swinging chairs at one end of the house room but the decor of the club is nothing special and quite simple really.

What is impressive is the sound system. It is the best I have heard in Barcelona. When the bass kicks in it really hits you in the solar plexus and the high end frequencies are crystal clear.

Another highlight is the go-go dancers and shows that are performed especially when big name DJs play. They are all extremely sexy and work the crowd into a frenzy. The majority of big name DJs and producers have appeared and performed at Catwalk. It is not unusual to see Roger Sanchez one week, Eric Morillo the next and Moby the following week. So top quality electronic music is guaranteed.

The hip hop room relies more on its resident DJs but at the week ends it is packed with locals and foreign clubbers bumping and grinding to some of the freshest hip hop tunes.

As stated the clientele is mixed and really depends on which night you choose to go. However tourists are guaranteed all year round as it is next to the beach and advertised in most tourist guides. Most locals go to Catwalk on Saturday or Sunday or when big name DJs come to town to spin. The cover charge is 15 euros and that gets you entry into the club and a free drink.

However, there are promotion boys and girls with discounted flyers so it’s possible to get in for a discounted price or even free. They hang out right next to the club and are easy to spot. Drink prices are reasonable: 10 euros for a long drink, 6 euros for a bottle of beer and 150 euros between 5 people to go to the VIP area, a bottle of alcohol and all the mixers you need..

To conclude Catwalk is a good nightclub and if you go on a Saturday night you are sure to have a good time. However, competition is fierce in the Port area and Catwalk has lost clients due to 2 new discos with open air terraces opening up over the last few years. They definitely have to re-think their business strategy and hopefully will rise again to be the number one club in Barcelona.
